1st Grade Teacher

When you enter a new community, you are looking for acceptance and for people to value what you bring into that new community. The staff at MCS came alongside me on day one and have encouraged me to be the best teacher I can be. I take that into my classroom daily. The success of my students begins with them feeling like a part of our school family. They are given opportunities to lead and encourage each other as well as have a voice when they see a needed change. I am beyond encouraged by the growth I’ve seen in myself and my school family these past few weeks.

We chose Midtown Community School because of its core values. As a non-traditional family, diversity is extremely important when choosing a school. What has made us feel most at home, is the sense of community that we feel each and every day that we step foot into the school. Both us and our daughter feel a sense of pride in calling this our “home away from home” for our kindergartner. Although we are new parents, it has felt effortless to get involved and comfortable with the staff and other parents. We are looking forward to many years to come at MCS and would easily recommend it to any parent looking for a charter school in the area.

The thing I like most about my school is that my teachers are always taking care of me. I love my school!

Parents

As residents of Midtown, our family had the honor of working with the founders of the school before our daughter was school age. We knew a lot about the school, but when our daughter entered kindergarten we immediately knew it would be the right fit for our family. Our daughter can be herself here and she is growing in a community that values her and her classmates. As a family that lives within walking distance to the school, we love that it not only represents the diversity of our community, but it also values us as its neighbor.

Alumnus

During the nine years I attended Midtown Community School, I began to truly warm up to the people around me and started making meaningful connections with my peers. From the front desk staff to my middle school teachers, everyone made sure I felt welcome in a school that genuinely emphasizes both diversity and education. Through debate and other opportunities, this community helped me grow more confident in myself, especially in my speaking abilities. Now, as an alumnus of the school, I feel confident that I can take the education I received here and carry it into my high school experience and beyond.

Belonging is my favorite core value because I think it’s important to learn to trust others, even people who are different from us.
